On Thursday, April 3, Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon questioned such policy and ordered for its temporary suspension and urged the MRT management to review their policies for the benefit of the commuter
In a reposted announcement by Metro Rail Transit Authority on April 2, they reiterated that passengers are limited to a 2x2 ft luggage on their baggage when using the MRT-3 Train Line. This measure left cosplay, photography, and artist commuters wary of the limitation.
One netizen shared their disagreement with the restriction, saying that not everyone brings luggage onto the MRT-3 anyway and the choice to use the MRT-3 is their way of saving money and doing their part to lessen carbon emissions. They also mentioned how the stations of the MRT-3 are “not luggage friendly to begin with.”
A netizen on Facebook mentioned that it creates inconvenience for commuters who travel with their merchandise.
Another netizen also pointed out that other countries like Japan and Hong Kong have higher size limits compared to the train line’s limits.
The post, originally posted in December 2019 which discussed MRT’s Memorandum Circular No. 004. It reminded passengers that only baggage up to 2x2 feet are allowed in the train. Meanwhile, the LRT-2 has the same policy, only allowing for 2x2ft baggage for commuters, while the LRT-1 allows for larger baggage, up to 3x5ft.
